What is Vicki Langemo's counseling style?
Over the phone, she only does supportive counseling conversations not medical therapy. Vicki is a cognitive/behavior counselor. This means she helps you become aware of your thought process that directs your decision-making and feelings which contribute to your automatic behavioral habits. Becoming aware of this process empowers you to change them. Vicki will then teach you a variety of skills to help give you the tools to implement healthy change in your life. She is a client-centered therapist. This means she will be positive, supportive, caring, and encouraging. She will work with you to determine your therapy goals. Her counseling style is more like having a conversation with a trusted friend. Vicki tells stories, uses analogies, teaches skills and tries to make the process easy and comfortable for her clients.
Why should I call for counseling now instead of waiting to see if things will get better?
People often put off counseling because they don't want to spend the time, money or they're nervous about starting. Most of the time, things don't get better on their own. This is because we keep doing things basically the same way or try to change but slip back into old behaviors. People may have negative beliefs about counseling but everyone can use a little help now and then. Therefore, it is important not to put it off. Often, problems just keep getting bigger and bigger until the situation is so far out of hand that it is hard to fix.
